A newly discovered portrait believed to depict Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a revered military figure in Korean history, was unveiled by Noh Seung-seok from Dongguk University's Yeohye Research Institute. This portrait, owned by a private collector in Seoul, dates back to the late 19th century. It features a man in military attire with a significant mustache, reminiscent of 'Kaiser mustache.' The portrait is believed to have been housed in a shrine dedicated to Yi Sun-sin and reflects the style of portraits from the late Joseon Dynasty, suggesting it could be based on much older originals of Yi. Though its authenticity is still under investigation, it's a significant find as it may offer new insights compared to other known portraits of the admiral.
