German artist Anselm Kiefer, celebrating his 80th birthday, pays homage to art superstar Vincent van Gogh with an exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, titled "Sag mir wo die Blumen sind" (Where Have All the Flowers Gone). This exhibition features Kiefer's large-scale works alongside Van Gogh's iconic pieces like "Shoes" and "Starry Night." Kiefer's works contrast with Van Gogh’s smaller paintings, using massive canvases and bold materials to create a similar impact. Kiefer's relationship with Van Gogh began in his youth, when he followed Van Gogh's trail from the Netherlands to France. Although initially misunderstood in his provocative performances in the 1960s, Kiefer has become a celebrated figure. This exhibit serves as an exploration of Kiefer's dedication to art and his connection to Van Gogh’s perseverance and creativity.
