Doowon Lee, the artist who gained attention at the Busan Biennale with his installation at Busan Modern Art Museum, is holding a solo exhibition in New York at ACA Galleries from April 8 to May 31. Titled 'Doowon and the Golden Fish Submarine Arrive in New York,' the exhibition features 34 diverse works including handmade wool carpets from Pakistan, stitch art, and large paintings. ACA Galleries' representative, Casey Bergen, describes Lee as a unique artist combining Korean traditional elements with modern aesthetics. Lee, born in 1982, is a self-taught artist who calls himself a 'nomadic outsider artist,' drawing inspiration from his travels. His background includes influences from his father, a disciple of Dongyang painter Heo Baekryeon, and his mother in fashion. Lee has been active in major art fairs worldwide, building a strong fan base. ACA Galleries, established in New York in 1932, is recognized for its participation in international art fairs and for its historical significance in American modern art. Lee's works will also be showcased at the Art Fair at COEX in Seoul from April 16-20. His solo booth will feature the caravan installation, paintings, carpet work, and stitch art, captivating audiences with Korean folk painting elements and colorful storytelling.
