Rabat, the capital of Morocco, has been designated as the World Book Capital for 2026 by UNESCO. This title is given annually to cities that contribute significantly to literacy improvement, growth in the publishing industry, and the expansion of reading culture. Rabat is recognized for modernizing its public libraries, promoting reading among youth, and implementing community-based literacy programs. In celebration, Rabat will offer various cultural events merging books and travel. South Korea's Incheon was previously chosen as the first Asian World Book Capital in 2015, successfully hosting citizen-oriented book fairs and initiatives to expand reading culture.
