Jeong Yak-yong, a renowned scholar in Korea, spent 18 years in exile in the small city of Gangjin, located in the southern part of Jeollanam-do. His exile was marked by deep despair as his family suffered unprecedented hardship. During his time in Gangjin, he resided at several places such as 'Sowonjae' and 'Dasan Chodang', imparting knowledge to students and writing numerous works including the famous 'Mokminsimseo'. The historical journey traces Jeong's scholarly endeavors, his interaction with Seon monk Hyejang, their exchange of tea culture, and the founding of the 'Literary House of Reward'. The scenic trails around Dasan Chodang and Baekryeonsa Temple offer natural beauty, enriched with camellias and literary heritage.
