"Visions of the Universe" Explores Surreal Art with a Korean Touch

The exhibition 'Visions of the Universe' by artist Yoo Sung-min is being held at the M Museum inside the Korea Magazine Museum in Seoul until the end of the month. Originally showcased at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles, the exhibition features Yoo's surrealist paintings and installations that metaphorically explore the mysteries of outer space and humanity's potential future. Inspired by surrealist Yves Tanguy, Yoo blends traditional Korean art techniques, such as hanji (a type of Korean paper) and ink wash painting, with contemporary themes. Through his work, he addresses social, political, and environmental issues like human rights, feminism, and climate crisis. Visitors can expect to see intriguing artworks like jellyfish floating in the sky and chimeras waiting for spaceships, highlighting the artist's boundless imagination.
