He explained that consuming cinnamon can lower blood sugar and improve insulin resistance, which aids in weight loss. Cinnamon also boosts metabolism, provides vitality, and helps control appetite due to its distinctive aroma and flavor. Besides weight loss, it promotes gut health, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and reduces inflammation caused by obesity. Key ingredients in cinnamon that help in dieting include cinnamic aldehyde for blood sugar control, polyphenols with strong antioxidant action, proanthocyanins for anti-inflammatory effects, and coumarin for improved blood circulation and swelling reduction. However, excessive consumption of coumarin can be harmful as it affects blood clot dissolution. Dr. Lee recommends consuming one to two cups of cinnamon tea daily and using Ceylon cinnamon for a milder flavor compared to the typical Korean cassia cinnamon used in 'Sujeonggwa' (a traditional cinnamon punch). Additionally, he suggests apple cider vinegar before meals, unsweetened soy milk, and natural cheese as supplementary diet aids.
