This year marks the 140th anniversary of Protestant missionaries Horace Underwood and Henry Appenzeller bringing the gospel to Korea. Known as the "Mother Church" of Korean Presbyterianism, Saemunan Church was founded in 1887 by Underwood, who also established Yonsei University and contributed to the Korean Bible translation. Saemunan Church introduced women to Christianity, giving them names and roles to spread the faith. Underwood's dedication to enlightenment laid the foundation for Korea's modernization.
