In Seoraksan National Park, an environmental movement is encouraging mountain climbers to take their waste back down the mountain with them rather than leaving it behind. The Seoraksan Alpinism Association distributed free waste collection bags, which include a patented solidifying agent, biodegradable plastic bags, cable ties, an outer bag, and a user guide. The campaign targets winter climbers at popular ice climbing spots to prevent waste from contaminating the water supply during the thaw. Despite the early morning effort, the campaign has seen positive responses from climbers who appreciate the initiative. Plans for future campaigns during peak tourist seasons are in place to further protect this national park, known for its pristine environment.
