Namyangju City Museum in Korea has opened a special exhibition focusing on Korean portraits, showcasing the portrait of Yi Bok-yeon, the 99th Samdosugun Tongjesa (Naval Commander). The exhibition, running until August 31st, 2023, highlights the artistry and historical significance of Joseon dynasty portraits. Yi Bok-yeon served as a significant military figure during the reign of King Yeongjo and is buried in Namyangju. The exhibition includes a rare full-body portrait of him, unlike the more common half-body ones from the late Joseon period, making it of high art historical value. Parts of the exhibition are digital recreations of other prominent families' portraits in Korea, such as the Neungseong Gu, Cheongpung Kim, and Andong Kim. Original and replica artifacts are presented to preserve the delicate items, keeping them intact for future generations.
