Boom in Heuksan Skate Fishing but Fishermen Aren't Smiling

Despite the boom in Heuksan skate (a type of fish) fishing in Sinan, South Korea, fishermen are not happy. Sales have dropped due to low domestic demand and prices, which were previously high around the Lunar New Year, are lower than usual at about 250,000 won per fish. The daily auction at Heuksan Cooperative now sees around 2,000 skates sold, a significant amount compared to previous years. However, consumer purchases have shifted towards smaller, cheaper packages instead of buying by the whole fish. Although it's currently a good time to enjoy high-quality Heuksan skate at a reasonable price, sales expectations remain unmet. Heuksan skate is known for its tender meat and health benefits, making it a treasured delicacy in South Korea.
