The Seoul International Dance Festival will stage modern ballet 'Nuiyeot Nuiyeot - Asrahi' on the 8th at Naru Arts Center as a festival centerpiece running through the 19th. Choreographer Ham Do-yoon’s Aham Art Project explores a veteran’s wartime memories and sundowning (a dementia-related syndrome) through a story of an elderly man who mistakes his grandchild for a brother lost in war. Dancers and live video shift between past and present to mourn those erased by conflict and to show that war’s wounds persist today. The title 'Nuiyeot Nuiyeot' (a Korean word depicting the dimming light at day’s end) symbolizes how war memories resurface at dusk. Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kwon O-eul and veteran groups plan to attend the performance. The work blends ballet’s linearity with theatrical emotion and continues Ham’s practice of addressing social issues via personal narratives.
