MCM Sponsors Communicator Kim Chang-ok’s First Solo Exhibition to Offer Cultural Experience

Luxury fashion house MCM opened “Kim Chang-ok: Traces of Comfort” at MCM HAUS in Seoul (Cheongdam) as part of its 50th anniversary and Frieze Week Seoul 2026 partnership. The show, free from Mar 3–27, supports Kim Chang-ok’s first solo exhibition — the well‑known communication lecturer who spent 20 years speaking to the public and now expresses life’s wounds and time through lacquer (ott; traditional Korean lacquer) artworks. MCM says this move reflects its “next‑generation luxury” strategy: shifting from selling products to providing cultural values and memorable experiences. The brand is using its retail space as a cultural venue, focusing on discovering emerging creators rather than only star collaborations. Kim’s repetitive lacquer layering, done in her Jeju studio, serves as a meditative process; the exhibited works (‘Crying’, ‘Line Without a Line’, etc.) show cracks, wrinkles and surface traces that convey healing, time and relationships. MCM also left open potential collaborations after the show, emphasizing broader art and culture initiatives for its 50th year.
