Daiso and Musinsa have launched their first dedicated offline beauty stores in Seoul, aiming to challenge market leader Olive Young (a major Korean health and beauty retailer). Daiso opened a 20-pyeong (about 66 m²) beauty-focused shop near Konkuk University stocked with roughly 1,800 items—80% beauty products—highlighting ultra-low prices and variety. The brand has rapidly expanded its cosmetics assortment and draws younger shoppers with 1,000–5,000 KRW price-point items. Musinsa will open its first standalone beauty store in Hongdae on the 11th, following an earlier beauty zone at its Seongsu megastore; it plans another Seongsu opening in November. Musinsa emphasizes curated indie and emerging brands discovered online and has seen strong event turnout and sales growth for partner brands. Olive Young remains dominant with robust sales and a large store network, but the new Daiso and Musinsa concepts—value-focused and indie-curation—are expected to intensify competition and broaden consumer choice in Korea’s offline beauty market.
