Korean Carriers Use AI and 5G to Protect Communications at Seoul Fireworks Festival

SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ are deploying special network measures for the Seoul World Fireworks Festival at Yeouido and Ichon riverside parks. All three operators will add temporary base stations and boost fixed infrastructure to handle crowds of around one million. SKT will use its AI operations system “A-One” to predict traffic, recommend locations and reduce planning time from days to 30 minutes. KT upgraded nearby base station capacity, placed mobile cells and will use 5G network slicing to give organizers low-latency CCTV feeds (5G network slicing: dividing one 5G network into separate virtual networks for specific services). LG U+ activated an emergency operation with its AI platform “AION” to prevent base station overload and automatically control traffic.
