G-Dragon's Voice Turned into Luminous Sculptures in Lee Kwan-young Solo Show 'ECHOES'

Artist Lee Kwan-young presents 'ECHOES' at JN Gallery in Seoul, transforming voice waveforms into five vertical light sculptures. One notable piece, 'PEACEMINUSONE,' captures singer G-Dragon's voice using resin, LEDs, and iron to create a 170 cm glowing form. Other works include 'Wave Sound'—a 255 cm sculpture based on waves from Gangneung where the artist recovered after a life-threatening illness—and 'Healthy,' which incorporates soil from the orchard where his mother farmed and is based on her words. Lee also displays a piece of exchanged 'I love you' between the artist and his wife and a multilingual 'love' recorded by spouses of 14 ambassadors volunteering with the Korean Red Cross. A Seoul National University graduate, Lee has spent over 20 years visualizing ephemeral sounds across media—sculpture, digital printing, jewelry, and video—using voices such as Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan's 'love', Barack Obama's 'hope', and John Lennon's 'peace.' The exhibition runs through October 24.
