Autumn brings a wealth of exhibitions across Gangwon province showcasing local artists’ perspectives on nature, life and coexistence. In Pyeongchang, the 21st “Pyeongchang Story Exhibition” runs at Jinbu Cultural Arts Studio through the 13th, featuring 16 members of the Pyeongchang Artists’ Association exploring memory, time, humans and environment. In Sokcho, Go Juri’s “Landscapes Blooming in Textile” opens at Sokcho Art Platform’s Gaetbae Gallery from the 11th, translating Seoraksan and the East Sea into yarn, gauze and felt with acrylics—using techniques like hand-dyed threads and leaf transfers. At Gallery One until the 7th, Yumi Sook’s invited solo show “Eoulda—Communication” (eoulda is an archaic Korean word meaning “to come together” or “harmonize”) addresses coexistence between humans and nature, emphasizing listening and empathy. These shows are supported by local cultural bodies and invite visitors to slow down and reflect on the relationship between people and the natural world.
