Mona Hatoum’s Glass ‘Web’ Drapes a Hanok at Podo Museum Project

Podo Museum opened its second art project “The Well‑Being of Things That Tremble” at Seonhyewon in Samcheong‑dong, Seoul, featuring works by internationally renowned installation artist Mona Hatoum and Korean artists Choi Seong‑im and Kim Yun‑soo. Hatoum’s new site‑specific installation Web (2025) suspends about 1,200 clear glass beads on thin stainless cables beneath the wooden rafters (seokkarae) of a traditional Korean house (hanok), creating a shimmering spider‑web that reads as both shelter and trap depending on the viewer’s position. Choi’s Golden Blanket (2026) transforms thousands of gold bread‑twist ties (used to close plastic bread bags) into a 6.2m quilt‑like floor work, while Kim’s Wind Surface series layers blue PVC windbreak film cut into foot shapes to explore grounding and presence; his earlier cardboard wind sculptures are shown upstairs. Curators intentionally paired a global figure with two relatively less‑known Korean women artists; the exhibition runs through Oct 31 at Seonhyewon, with extended access to upper floors for the first time and special evening programming during Frieze Seoul.
