Japanese playwright Gōki Mitani, known for comedies like 'The University of Laughter' and 'Sake, Tears and Jekyll & Hyde', brings his new work 'American Dream' to Seoul in an original touring production. Presented by Japanese company PARCO with its local cast, the play runs October 30–November 1 at COEX Artium. Departing from comedy, Mitani's psychological drama tackles historical tragedy set in early 1940s Hollywood during the McCarthy-era anti-communist purges, following filmmakers suspected of communist ties as they are interrogated about their beliefs. The Korean run features acclaimed Japanese actors Fumiyo Kohinata, Kazu-yuki Asano, and Hajime Yamazaki, all winners of the Yomiuri Theatre Award (요미우리 연극대상). Mitani said the play asks deep questions about power and art and is dedicated to all creators.
