Gokseong to Host National Cooking Contest in October, Spotlighting Local Produce

Gokseong County and the consolidated education office will co-host the 4th Gokseong National Cooking Contest on October 23 at the Seomjingang Train Village central plaza. The competition seeks practical group-meal recipes usable in restaurants, schools and care facilities, and awards extra points for dishes using local agricultural specialties such as taro, Gokseong rice, black pork, melon, Neungi mushrooms (a native wild mushroom), and freshwater snails. Teams of two can apply by September 23; after document screening ten teams will advance to the finals, with total prize money of 5.5 million won including the top Unified Special Mayor’s Award.
Separately, Gokseong is running a monthlong “Culture Around Every Corner” program in September to bring arts to residents’ everyday spaces. Events include a traveling music-and-theatre café “My Hometown” in Godal-ri village, a screening of the 1960s black-and-white film “Manseon” at the small local cinema, an autumn cultural market “Homi-jang” combining local produce and crafts with performances, and a family forest experience “Eureuni Camp.” The series will continue through November, using local cultural, artistic and natural resources.
