Education Ministry and KAI Team Up to Train Vocational High School Students for Aviation and Space Careers

South Korea’s Ministry of Education and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) signed an agreement to create job-linked training pathways for vocational high school students to become aviation and aerospace technicians. KAI will select 60 first- and 60 second-year vocational students for job assessments, introductory training, and hands-on workplace visits, including conversations with experienced employees. About 50 third-year students will join a hire-linked curriculum featuring 280 hours (2 months) of training plus a 6-month internship; successful students may be offered full employment after evaluation. Trainees will learn practical skills such as airframe assembly, parts machining, quality inspection, and avionics maintenance from veteran KAI technicians. The Education Ministry will promote scholarship and “work-then-learn” (선취업 후학습) policies so graduates can continue studies while working. The ministry hopes this partnership will serve as a model for other companies to develop skilled technical talent for the aviation and space industry.
