Conductor Jin Sol and Mahlerrian Orchestra to Complete 10-Year Mahler Cycle with Symphony No.2

The Mahlerrian Orchestra, led by artistic director and conductor Jin Sol, will conclude its 10-year project of performing all Gustav Mahler symphonies on October 9 at Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul. Founded in 2016, the Mahlerrian is a private ensemble of musicians dedicated to Mahler’s works and set out to become the first civilian orchestra in Korea to perform his complete symphonic cycle. The final program features Mahler’s Symphony No.2 “Resurrection,” a large-scale, emotionally powerful work exploring life, death, loss and hope, requiring over 100 orchestra members and some 120 choral singers from groups including the Wonju City Choir, Seoul Motet Choir, and Winner Opera Chorus; soprano Kang Hye-jung and alto Kim Se-rin are scheduled to solo. Jin has led annual Mahler performances despite high costs and logistical challenges; completing the cycle would make her one of the youngest conductors globally—and the youngest in Asia—to finish all Mahler symphonies. Jin hopes the series will connect modern audiences to Mahler’s century-old questions about human existence.
