Sokcho Native Shin Seung-tae Wins 'Immortal Songs' with Traditional Ballad

Shin Seung-tae, a musician from Sokcho, won first place on KBS2’s 'Immortal Songs' special by performing the Gangwon-do folk song "Han O-baek Nyeon" (a regional traditional ballad). Competing as Gangwon-do's representative in the national trot festival, Shin greeted the audience in the Gangwon-do dialect and introduced Sokcho specialties like dakgangjeong (sweet fried chicken), jangkalguksu (spicy knife-cut noodle soup), and ojingeo sundae (squid-stuffed sausage). A Sokcho city ambassador since 2021, he said his teacher encouraged him to sing the song wherever he goes because it embodies Gangwon people. His soulful tone and powerful vocals earned him four consecutive wins and the Part 1 championship.
