Gimpo Gugak Artists Keep Tradition Alive with “Millennium Resonance”

On September 13 at 4 PM, the Gimpo branch of the Korean Gugak Association will present its 26th annual concert “Millennium Resonance: Carrying Gimpo’s Spirit” at Gimpo Art Hall. The program — part of Gimpo’s 2026 arts support — showcases local gugak (traditional Korean music) performers presenting singing (minyo), traditional dance, percussion ensemble (modeumbuk), and folk genres like seonsori santaryeong, seodo sori, and gyeonggi minyo. Local heritage pieces, Gimpo Hyangsan Nongak Nori (a village farming percussion tradition) and Gimpo Sauhoe Dajisori (a traditional funeral chant), will also be featured to highlight community life and customs. Organizers emphasize preserving and passing on these living traditions amid rapid AI and digital change, offering citizens a chance to experience the vigor and beauty of Korean traditional arts. The concert is produced by the Gimpo Gugak Association with support from the city and cultural foundation.
