New Island Airline Boosts Seoul–South Coast Links: Gimpo–Sacheon Flights Now 6 Round-Trips Daily

A regional carrier, Seom Air, has begun operating the Gimpo–Sacheon route, adding four round-trips to Jin Air’s two and raising daily service to six round-trips (12 flights). The airline uses 72-seat ATR 72-600 turboprop planes, which fly at lower altitudes giving close-up views of the many islands of the Hallyeosudo (Korean archipelago). Flight time to Sacheon is about 1 hour 15 minutes from Gimpo; from Sacheon Airport it takes roughly 40–50 minutes by car to reach Tongyeong, Namhae, or Hadong, making same-day or short overnight trips easier. The smaller aircraft speeds boarding and deplaning, though flights are about 10 minutes longer than some jets. Seom Air plans more regional routes (Gimpo–Ulsan, Sacheon/Ulsan–Jeju) and eventual service to Ulleung Airport (planned 2027). Success will depend on steady year-round demand from both residents and tourists, as ATR 72-600 planes can serve short runways and island airfields well.
