Drones and Robots Team Up to Deliver Up to 40kg to Apartment Doors

South Korea’s Aviation Agency and ETRI are testing a contactless delivery system where drones carry parcels (up to 40kg) to nearby apartment drop-off points and autonomous delivery robots take them the rest of the way to residents’ doors. The trial runs in a Jinju apartment complex with 50 deliveries, checking robot navigation through narrow streets, crosswalks, and inside complexes, and evaluating safety procedures for drone failures, bad weather, and communications loss. The program aims to develop seven heavy-lift drones and indoor/outdoor delivery robots, run over 300 demonstrations nationwide, and scale the technology for everyday residential use.
