In late summer in Gangwon Province, two nearby cities stage parallel arts events where different generations share personal stories. In Gangneung, eight elderly women from Yeochan-ri who spent their lives as wives and mothers are exhibiting paintings, writings and a self-composed song in “Drawing Life” at Sojib Gallery from Sept 4–6. Organized by the community group “Anything Team,” the show includes a storybook, artworks (including a trumpet vine/Chinese trumpet flower — 능소화 — painting by Lee Seung-ja), and the debut of their song and music video at a public storytelling session on Sept 6. In Chuncheon and Nowon, young writers and artists are exchanging ideas along the Gyeongchun Line railway in a cross-city show titled “Perhaps the Same Story” at the Gyeongchun Line Forest Gallery (서울 노원구) through Sept 22. Three Chuncheon artists — Kwak Shin-yi, Kim Hyun-woo and Lee Min-jae — join two Nowon creators under curator Mok Sun-hye to weave separate life experiences into a shared narrative, offering audiences a view of artists expanding their creative worlds. Organizers hope ongoing Chuncheon–Nowon ties will broaden local artists’ audiences and creative possibilities.
