With the openings of Korea’s largest art fair KIAF Seoul and the world-class Frieze Seoul approaching, fashion brands are promoting “Museum Dressing” — outfits designed for cultural spaces. Consumers increasingly treat museum and gallery visits as lifestyle occasions, from viewing exhibitions to attending curator talks, sponsor events, and after-hours parties, leading to demand for clothes that suit these settings. The summer “mu-cance” (museum+vacation) trend also boosts indoor cultural outings. Korean labels are drawing inspiration from European museum culture: LF’s Hazzys released a “Museum” collection featuring linen-blend pants, crochet cardigans, pleated sets, and muted tones like stone white and marble green, with graphics inspired by garden flowers and sculptures. Daks launched a Frieze art fair–inspired FW line using abstract logo prints and lightweight fabrics such as washable silk-linen blends. Brands say consumers now buy apparel to express taste and lifestyle tied to where they spend time, so fashion is targeting specific TPOs (time, place, occasion). Frieze Seoul and KIAF Seoul open simultaneously next month at COEX, featuring dozens of galleries from around the world.
