Nongshim Secures 490 Tons of Wando Kelp, Continuing 45-Year Supply for Neoguri

Nongshim purchased 490 tons of fresh kelp (dasima) from Geumildo, Wando County, through a local auction, continuing a 45-year sourcing relationship for its Neoguri instant noodle brand. Since Neoguri’s launch in 1982, Nongshim has bought about 18,500 tons of Wando kelp, valued for its role in the seafood udon (haemul udon) flavor. Wando is Korea’s leading kelp-producing region—accounting for 66% of national production in 2025—thanks to favorable sunlight and wind for kelp farming. With good harvests this year, Nongshim increased purchases by about 10% over last year to support fisher incomes and local economies. Beyond buying kelp, the company participates in regional festivals and other cooperative activities to sustain long-term partnerships with Wando fishermen and boost regional economic vitality.
