Chuncheon Ballet Company wraps up a tour of four Gangwon regions with performances in Chuncheon on the 27th and 29th. The troupe will present two works: a patriotic contemporary ballet, “That June, Becoming a Nameless Star,” inspired by unnamed student soldiers from the 6·25 War (Korean War), and “Bravo Figaro,” a comedic ballet adaptation of Rossini’s opera The Barber of Seville. The company—formed mainly by dancers and staff from Kangwon National University and the local area—focuses on works rooted in regional history and stories. Audience engagement programs include a ballet costume and pointe shoe experience (toe shoes) before shows and post-performance talks with the choreographer and dancers; outreach and community ballet workshops are planned for September. Artistic director Park Ki-hyun says the mix of historical and comic pieces and hands-on activities aim to make ballet feel familiar rather than distant.
