Sorikkun Ijaram Brings Snowstorm to Avignon, Returns to Korea for Large-Scale Comeback

Pansori singer Ijaram will present her solo adaptation of Tolstoy’s short story “The Owner and the Worker,” retitled “Snow, Snow, Snow,” in Korea this autumn. After performing at the Avignon Festival in France, where audience participation helped create a vivid snowstorm effect, Ijaram will stage the work in a large 1,300-seat theater at LG Arts Center Seoul on Oct. 23–24, following earlier stops in Gwangju (Sept. 18–19) and Gumi (Oct. 8–9), and a later show in Jeju (Dec. 4–5). In the piece she performs over ten roles (including narrator, Vasily, Nikita, a horse and a dog) with one drummer (gosu), aiming to realize her original vision of a solitary figure amid a vast snowstorm on a minimalist stage. The project began when “Denis,” whom she calls her “French father,” recommended Tolstoy’s story in 2024 and later praised the finished work in Avignon.
