Researchers at KAIST, led by Professor Jinwoo Kim, have developed a treatment for restoring vision through retinal nerve regeneration, marking a world-first achievement. This involves blocking the PROX1 protein, which inhibits retinal regeneration, leading to nerve growth and sustained vision recovery in mice models. This breakthrough could bring hope to patients with degenerative retinal diseases. A startup, 'Celliaz', aims to advance this research into a treatment by 2028. The study was published in 'Nature Communications'.
