South Korean airlines are increasing flights to China and Japan as travelers seek affordable destinations amid high inflation and exchange rates. From March 30 to October 25, airlines will operate 128 routes compared to 115 last year. Notably, Korean Air is expanding its Incheon-Fuzhou route and launching a new Incheon-Kobe route. Asiana Airlines is increasing flights to several Chinese destinations like Chongqing and Chengdu, while Jeju Air is doubling the Incheon-Matsuyama route's frequency. More airlines, including T'way and Jin Air, plan to add routes to China and Japan. Airline officials state these regions are popular for short trips, typically lasting less than three days, due to their proximity and reduced travel expenses, and this trend is expected to continue in 2023.
