The 'Slow City Sansawon', a traditional liquor museum established by Baesangmyeon Group in Gyeonggi Province, Korea, offers visitors a hands-on experience in brewing traditional Korean liquors. Over 50,000 to 100,000 visitors come annually to enjoy exhibitions and taste tests of various liquors, including makgeolli (a type of Korean rice wine). This experience, popular with the experience-seeking MZ generation (millennials and Gen Z), allows participants to make up to 1L of yakju (a clear refined rice wine) and 4L of makgeolli. The brewing process starts with steaming 'godu-bap' (cooked rice for brewing alcohol) and involves at-home fermentation. Government support aims to expand the industry by increasing local rice usage and offering brewing licenses. The museum also showcases Korean alcoholic culture and features a tasting space to sample all of the brewery’s products, providing a rich cultural experience.
