The Korean travel industry is regaining momentum due to increasing travel demands post-pandemic, both from international tourists visiting Korea (inbound) and Koreans traveling abroad (outbound). A variety of Korean cultural content such as music, drama, beauty, fashion, and food contribute to this resurgence, drawing more tourists to the country. According to the Korean Tourism Organization, inbound tourists for January to November 2024 increased by 51.1% compared to the previous year, reaching 94% of the pre-COVID-19 numbers. Notably, accommodations in Seoul's Myeongdong, a hub for Korean pop culture, are in high demand. The government aims to boost the number of visitors in 2024 and has been strategizing, for example, by partnering with ski resorts for packaged deals. Nascent digital innovations, including AI and membership-based booking platforms like AllMyTour.com, aim to enhance traveler convenience and satisfaction. Despite economic challenges, more Koreans are also traveling abroad, with international travel figures nearly reaching the historic highs of 2019.
