South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has decided to prioritize quarantine negotiations for exporting strawberries, tangerines, pet food, and other products as part of their strategy to expand agro-food export territories. A committee selected 11 key items for focus in export discussions until 2025, including both agricultural products like grapes, sweet potatoes, and strawberries, and livestock products such as beef and pet food. Countries targeted for these exports include the Philippines, Turkey, and the U.S. among others. The government aims to strategically approach markets like Singapore and South Africa for pet food exports due to the global increase in pet ownership. Additionally, there are plans to initiate new beef markets in regions such as Singapore and Vietnam following Korea's FMD-free status. The selected items will be promoted through various channels including the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) to assess market demand and competitiveness abroad. The ministry hopes to continue broadening its export reach while developing new strategic markets.
