The South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has designated five sports - archery, badminton, shooting, swimming, and fencing - as strategic focus areas for development. Each sport will receive approximately 4 billion Korean Won annually over the next four years. The initiative aims to expand the participation base and enhance performance through advanced science technology, addressing challenges like population decline impacting sports engagement. Selected sports associations will create detailed development plans with consulting assistance from organizations like the Korea Sport Science Institute. Notable plans include archery training for schools and specialized maintenance for shooting equipment. This targeted support intends to strengthen the autonomy and accountability of sports federations and advance sustainable sports development in Korea.
