Lee Byung-wook, the Artistic Director of Gwangju Symphony Orchestra, renowned for his connection to Austrian music, will conduct a concert at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul on the 25th, celebrating the 200th anniversary of Johann Strauss II. Lee, who has Austrian nationality, highlights the cultural significance of waltz, comparing it to unique Korean musical sentiments of 'han' in pansori and 'heung' in samulnori. Emphasizing 'schmäh'—a charming and slightly ironic wit—Lee encourages audiences to experience the lively waltz infused with Austrian culture. The concert will include polkas and operettas such as "The Bat," promising an engaging musical journey. Lee's return to collaborate with the HanKyung arte Philharmonic is extra special, as he overcame a life-threatening heart attack following a performance last November.
