The National Museum Cultural Foundation is staging the family musical 'Grandma's Summer Vacation' at the National Museum of Korea theater in Yongsan, Seoul through August 30. Returning for a second season after last year’s success, the production enhances direction and actor chemistry. A standout feature is its fully domestic stage technology: a 6-meter whale that swims above the audience and a flying mermaid 'Cici' perform 360-degree aerial acts, combined with projection mapping to transform the stage and seats into an immersive sea. The story follows grandson Seok-gu, his grandmother, and their dog Mary as a gifted conch shell leads them into the “sora sea” (sora means conch shell) to meet characters Bora and Garu and search for Seok-gu’s sandcastle. Aimed at all ages, the show emphasizes intergenerational communication and family love, offering comfort to adults and lessons about family to children. The performance is 75 minutes with no intermission and suitable for ages 24 months and up.
