The 2026 Pyeongchang Daegwallyeong Music Festival opens on July 23 in Daegwallyeong, Pyeongchang, under the theme “Legacy and Innovation.” Now in its 23rd year, the festival has become South Korea’s leading classical music event by curating programs that span Baroque to contemporary works, including premieres, chamber music, opera and orchestral repertoire. Renowned international artists have served as artistic directors—starting with violinist Kang Hyo and including cellists and pianists—each shaping the festival’s artistic direction. The festival’s setting in the mountains, clean air and its outdoor Music Tent (뮤직텐트) create a unique concert experience that blends culture and tourism, helping to establish Pyeongchang as an international arts hub. Artistic Director Yang Seong-won frames this year’s program as an exploration of how musical heritage can spark new creation, connecting performances into a cohesive narrative journey.
