Opera Arias, Musical Hits and Pop Songs: Vocal Ensemble Bridges Classical and Popular Music

On July 15 at 7:30 PM the 218th “Midnight U; Concert” (한밤의 유U;콘서트) at Busan’s Cinema Center features Musica Felice, an ensemble whose name means “happy music” in Italian. Under director and soprano Park Ji-eun, the group aims to lower the barrier to opera and connect classical and popular audiences. The program, accompanied by the Busan Artist Orchestra (conductor Kim Jae-jun) and singer Seo Uri, spans opera favorites like the drinking song from La Traviata, musical hits from Jekyll & Hyde and The Phantom of the Opera, pop-opera (popera) and well-known Korean pop songs such as “Sone Sonejapgo” (손에 손잡고). Park says the focus is on creating performances that leave a lasting emotional impression rather than flashy spectacle.
