Sculptor Kim Hyun-woo’s solo show “Connect Distort: Mechanisms of Relationship” opens at Chuncheon Gaenari Museum through the 26th. Using industrial PVC pipes, discarded PLA supports from 3D printing, and distorted digital scan data, the exhibition explores how digital-era networks and algorithms shape human relationships. Neat rows of standardized white PVC pipes symbolize how people become homogenized by repetitive information and algorithmic influence. Tangled plastic offcuts (PLA support: leftover structures used to hold 3D-printed objects during printing) represent the expendable byproducts of production and, paradoxically, catalysts that reveal individual uniqueness. Distorted human forms from scanning underscore how endless replication and data degradation blur boundaries between originals and copies, truth and illusion. Overall, the show questions whether the many connections and choices we think are ours are actually determined by external systems.
