Chuncheon Performing Arts Festival 2026 Opens Tickets on 14th; Runs Aug 11–15

The 25th Chuncheon Performing Arts Festival will run August 11–15 across venues in Chuncheon, with tickets on sale starting the 14th. Under the theme “Elation” inspired by the sports term “Runner’s High,” the festival presents 17 works spanning dance (8 pieces), music (6), theatre (1) and children’s shows (2). Contemporary dance will be staged at the Festival Theater Momjit (축제극장 몸짓), music concerts at Seongam Church (성암교회) — which will be transformed into a jazz live club for three days — and children’s performances at Damjageun Library (담작은도서관). Program highlights include new choreographers, works reinterpreting nostalgic Korean content like “Dear Mario” and a piece based on Cyworld mini-rooms (“minimii”), a modern take on traditional performance by Liquid Sound, and regional showcases from the “Gangwon Finder” initiative. A free children’s musical and a masked play are scheduled for August 12. The lone theatre piece, “The Great Battle of the Sheepfold” by director Joo Eun-gil, will play Aug 14–15. Festival director Lee Yun-sook hopes the immersive performances will share moments of creative euphoria with audiences.
