On July 7, Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Choi Hwi-young praised the 20th Daegu International Musical Festival (DIMF), which closed after an 18-day run. He called the festival a homegrown “K-musical” success that grew into Asia’s largest musical festival, drawing over 2.5 million attendees and evolving into a platform for discovering new works, training talent, and fostering global exchange. After attending the closing ceremony, Choi personally presented the minister’s award to Baekseok University’s student musical “SUPERSTAR,” highlighting youth passion as the driving force to take Korean original musicals onto the world stage. DIMF’s 20th edition featured 14 invited productions, 6 supported new works, 2 special performances, 8 university musicals, and 5 readings; opening and closing events were held at the Daegu Kolon Outdoor Music Hall and Keimyung Art Center respectively.
