Korean Mountain Archive Launches with 12,900+ Digitized Records

A new Korean Mountain Archive (mtarchive.kr) opened on July 7, offering more than 12,900 digitized items documenting Korea’s mountaineering history from the early 1900s to today. Collected under the motto “records speak, we preserve,” the archive includes club newsletters, expedition plans and reports, textbooks, books, press coverage, letters between climbers, photos and videos. The project was led by the Busan Mountain Forum with participation from national and university mountaineering associations and experts to ensure thorough collection, classification and fairness. Materials came from about 80 organizations and 60 individuals, representing records from some 1,500 groups. The archive aims to support research and writing on mountaineering and Korean modern history; registered users can search and download items from the website.
