Popular YouTuber LALA (Lee Yura) confessed she smoked the equivalent of two packs a day (40 cigarettes) of e-cigarettes until just before learning she was pregnant, then quit completely and apologized. Colleague broadcaster Pungja confirmed she stopped both alcohol and smoking after marriage and pregnancy. Health experts warn that quitting only after pregnancy confirmation is late — ideally women should stop smoking at least three months before planned conception to clear nicotine and tar. E-cigarettes still deliver nicotine through the placenta, harming fetal brain development, reducing oxygen and nutrient flow, raising risks of ADHD, intrauterine growth restriction, preterm birth and low birth weight. Heavy smokers who quit abruptly often face severe withdrawal (anxiety, headaches, insomnia) and cannot use nicotine replacement therapies during pregnancy, increasing maternal stress. However, fetal and maternal health start to improve within 24 hours as carbon monoxide levels normalize, and lung and circulation function improve within weeks. Doctors advise couples planning pregnancy to quit together from the preparation stage to protect early embryo development.
