Artists Unite Along Hwangji Pond Waterway in Taebaek: Gangwon Contemporary Artists' Exhibition 'Confluence - Taebaek 2026'

The Gangwon Contemporary Artists' Association opens a curated show, "Confluence - Taebaek 2026," from July 11–20 at Taebaek Culture & Arts Center. Co-hosted with the Taebaek branch of the Korean Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations, the exhibition — themed "Confluence" — reflects the group's 46-year founding spirit of focusing on art over regional or academic ties. The title also evokes the Hwangji Pond (Hwangji Yeonmot) in Taebaek, whose waters join larger streams, symbolizing diverse artistic perspectives coming together to create a new wave in Gangwon contemporary art. Breaking from tradition, the organizers added about 10 emerging artists and welcomed nine new Taebaek-based artists; in total 50 artists from seven cities and counties (including Chuncheon, Gangneung, Wonju, Yeongwol, Hwacheon, Hongcheon and Taebaek) participate. Works span Western and Eastern painting, watercolor, sculpture and crafts, and founding members such as Han Giju, Kim Gibok and Yoo Byunghun are featured. Organizers hope the show will spark fresh creative energy and boost Taebaek’s cultural internationalization.
