K-Auction will hold a premium online auction on the 21st featuring 60 works tied to the monthly magazine Saemteo (샘터): 49 original artworks that appeared in the magazine and 11 pieces from its collection. The sale totals about 80 million KRW and includes paired lots where original artworks are offered alongside the actual magazine issue, adding publishing provenance. Saemteo, launched in 1970 as a general-interest magazine promoting everyday happiness and simple Korean language, introduced tens of thousands of readers to modern Korean art by publishing originals on its covers and pages when galleries were less accessible. Featured lots span ink-and-color, oil, and calligraphy from the 1970s to 2002, with notable works such as Namjeong Park No-su’s landscape (start 1,000,000 KRW), Son Eung-sung’s oil “Suburban Scenery” (start 4,000,000 KRW), Unbo Kim Ki-chang’s ink-and-color “Ceramic” (start 3,000,000 KRW), and Song Su-nam’s “Morning Glory” (start 500,000 KRW). The Saemteo-held collection includes founder of Samsung Lee Byung-chul’s (Ho-Am) calligraphy “Gongsurae Gongsugeo” (공수래공수거) entering the market for the first time (start 15,000,000 KRW). Other lots include Park Sun-ki’s installation “Panorama 2008” and a set of six late-Joseon folk paintings (chaekgado, 책가도). A public preview runs from the 11th to the 21st in Gangnam, with 24-hour online bidding during the preview and staggered lot closings on auction day.
