Donggang International Photo Festival Opens in Yeongwol from Sept 17, Gala on Sept 24

The Donggang International Photo Festival, one of South Korea’s leading global photography events, runs in Yeongwol County from September 17 to October 11. Organizers met to finalize exhibition layouts and staffing, and have been promoting the festival and the Donggang Raft Festival (동강뗏목축제) at the Korea International Travel Fair. The 24th edition’s opening ceremony will be held on the evening of September 24 at the outdoor plaza of the Donggang Photo Museum. Exhibitions include the international theme show, international competition, Donggang Photo Award winners’ show, Gangwon Province photographers’ exhibition, street installations, press photography, and a Yeongwol residents’ exhibition. Youth programs such as a nationwide elementary school photo-diary contest and the “TinTin” youth photo contest aim to engage younger participants, while professional offerings like the Donggang Photojournalism Workshop and university portfolio reviews seek to deepen the festival’s role as a lasting regional cultural asset. I Jae-gu (a Kyungsung University photography professor) said the festival has become Yeongwol’s signature cultural event and vowed to develop it further as a national-level international cultural festival.
