Artist Kwon So-jin opens a solo show "When Swallows Fly Low" at Artside Gallery, presenting 26 new works that blur the line between real and fake. From a distance, birds appear as folded or cut paper attached to canvas, but close inspection reveals meticulous brushwork—painted collages that mimic paper and tape. Other works riff on illusion, such as a bee that seems photographic but is actually a printed-dot pattern rendered in paint, and layered "wallpaper and drawing" pieces that expose hidden strata like peeled old wallpaper. Kwon explores how scenes that feel "picture-perfect" can become unreal, deliberately breaking the canvas’s illusion to hint at an unseen world. The exhibition runs through August 8.
